This year (2012), the world’s attention will turn to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games in June 2012 – and Sam Downie will be there at the heart of the action.
The 36-year-old admits he can hardly wait for the dramatic moment when the Olympic flame is lit and the Olympiad finally gets under way. Tens of thousands of people from across the country applied to be an official Olympic storyteller – with 100 names finally chosen, of which 50 are familiar celebrities.
“It should be spectacular,” says Sam Downie, who has beaten thousands of hopefuls to become a coveted BT Olympic Storyteller – chosen for his proficiency as a hi-profile blogger, prolific Twitter user, a popular presenter on radio/netcasts, and as a digital media “citizen journalist”.
